For California dealers, this recall is subject to the State of California Registration Renewal/Emission Recall Enforcement Program implemented
in 1992. Involved vehicles must have the recall service completed before registration renewal.
SPORTAGE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT PREPARATION:
Confirm that the vehicle has a production date of 8/29/96 to 2/18/97.
Inspect the ECM in accordance with steps 1 through 8 of this Bulletin to determine if the ECM requires replacement.
Review "Engine Control Module (ECM) Replacement Procedure" before attempting ECM replacement.
Inspect all replacement parts for damage prior to installation.

For vehicles sold in California, a supplied Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form must be completed and given to each owner upon
completion of the recall service for owner use as proof during renewal of vehicle registration.
Affected Production Range:
1997 Sportage models with production dates from 8/29/96 through 2/18/97.
