Wheels: Testing and Inspection

Inspections

Inspect the wheel closely for wear or damage that could cause failure. The aluminum wheel should be thoroughly cleaned with approved cleaning
materials to aid in inspection.

WARNING:  DO NOT USE ABRASIVES, HARSH CHEMICALS, OR WIRE BRUSHES TO CLEAN ALUMINUM WHEELS. DAMAGE TO
THE CORROSION-RESISTANT COATING WILL EXPOSE THE ALUMINUM TO HARMFUL CHEMICAL ACTION FROM SALTS, ETC.,
RESULTING IN FAILURE OF THE WHEEL.

1. Check wheel for corrosion buildup.
2. Check wheel for cracks.
3. Check lugnut stud holes for damage and wear.
4. Check rim area for dents and bent flanges.
5. Check for scratches/gouges that penetrate the corrosion-resistant coating of the wheel.

Caution: Discard damaged wheels in a manner that will ensure the wheels can not be used again. Damaged wheels can fail suddenly
during tire inflation, or when installed on the vehicle, with possible injury to personnel and damage to equipment.
