The AW03-72LE transmission uses a Simpson-type planetary gear set. This consists of a front and rear planetary carrier (both with pinions), one
common sun gear and two ring gears.
The sun gear is splined to the direct clutch hub. The front carrier is splined to the Low and Reverse Brake and one-way clutch No. 1. The rear
planetary ring gear is driven by the forward clutch. The front planetary ring gear and rear planetary carrier are splined to the output shaft.
In order to achieve the desired output to input ratios, there must be at least one input. One part of the gear set must also be held or driven to yield an
output.
