Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a rear seat side airbag with a deployed airbag.

Do not apply water to a rear seat side airbag with a deployed airbag.

Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.

An airbag or pretensioner may be activated by static electricity. To prevent this, be sure to touch a metal surface with bare hands
to discharge static electricity before performing this procedure.
1. DISPOSE OF REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (WHEN INSTALLED IN VEHICLE)
HINT: Prepare a battery as the power source to deploy the airbag.
(a) Check the function of SST See: Testing and Inspection/Rear Seat Side Airbag Assembly.
(b) Read the precaution See: Service Precautions.
(c) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt
pretensioner activation.
(d) Remove the rear seat See: Body and Frame/Seats/Service and Repair/Rear Seat Assembly (for Power Seat)/Removal.
HINT: Keep the rear seat in the cabin.
(e) Install SST.
(1) Disconnect the connector (yellow colored) from the rear seat side airbag.
NOTE:
When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
(2) Connect the SST connector to the rear seat side airbag connector.

NOTE:
To avoid damaging the SST connector and wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the twin lock.
(3) Install the rear seat See: Body and Frame/Seats/Service and Repair/Front Seat Assembly/Removal.
(4) Move SST at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the vehicle front side window.
(5) Maintaining enough clearance for the SST wire harness in the front side window, close all doors and windows of the vehicle.
NOTE:
Take care not to damage the SST wire harness.
(6) Connect the red clip of SST to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip of SST to the battery negative (-) terminal.
