NOISE - RESONANCE FROM FX-15 COMPRESSOR - VEHICLES WITH 4.6L ENGINE
FORD:
1991-93 CROWN VICTORIA
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991-93 GRAND MARQUIS, TOWN CAR
ISSUE:
Noise may be heard from the FX-15 A/C compressor at engine speeds between 1300 to 1500 RPM and 2400 to 2600 RPM. This is the result of a
component resonance inside the compressor.
ACTION:
Replace the existing compressor clutch disc and hub assembly with a new rubber damped disc and hub assembly. Refer to the Parts Block for correct
parts usage. Refer to the 1992 Lincoln Town Car, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Pages 12-03-33 and 34, for removal/installation
details and the following service procedure for setting the air gap.
NOTE:
DO NOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH PULLEY UNLESS THERE ARE REAR GROOVES IN THE PULLEY FRICTION SURFACE.
The new rubber damped disc and hub is shown in Figure 1.
AIR GAP SETTING
1.
Set the air gap between the clutch pulley and clutch hub assembly between 0.35 and 0.85 mm.
2.
As necessary, add additional spacers from the spacer service kit (F1VY-2D884-A). Optimum adjustment is toward the lower limit of the
specification range, in the interest of long range durability.
