Idle/Bypass Air Control Valve: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: Bypass Air Control (BAC) Valve consists of the air valve and idle air control valve.
SYSTEM OPERATION
Idle Speed Control System Operation
Air Valve
NOTE: Inspection must be done with engine cold - coolant temperature below 68°F (20°C).
1.
Connect Mazda SST, or equivalent, to data link connector.
2.
Set switch A to position 1 and test switch to SELF TEST.
3.
Start engine. Verify that idle speed gradually decreases as engine warms up.
Idle Air Control Valve
1.
Connect SST as above.
2.
Start engine and verify idle speed is within specification:
IDLE SPEED: 700 ± 50 rpm
3.
Unplug valve connector with test switch at SELF TEST.
4.
If engine speed decreases, replace BAC valve.
