Air Solenoid Valve: Testing and Inspection
Port Air Solenoid Valve

1.

Connect voltmeter to port air solenoid valve RB (1986-87) or BR (1988) terminal and ground.

2.

Start engine and run at idle speed, ensuring voltmeter reads less than 2 volts on 1987 models and less than 2.5 volts on 1988 models.

3.

Disconnect electrical connector at throttle sensor and ensure voltmeter reads approximately 12 volts. The solenoid valve voltage reading will be
a constant of approximately 12 volts (1987) or a constant below approximately 2.5 volts (1988) once vehicle has accumulated over 20,000
miles.
