show no damage and operate correctly. Safety belt assemblies not in use during a collision should also be inspected and new assemblies installed if either
damage or incorrect operation is noted. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.The automatic locking retractor (ALR) feature
of the safety belt retractor must be checked by a qualified technician to verify that the ALR feature for a child seat is functioning properly, in addition to
other checks for proper safety belt system function. A belt and retractor assembly must be replaced if the safety belt assembly's automatic locking
retractor feature or any other safety belt function is not operating properly when inspected according to the functional inspection procedures in the
service information. Failure to replace the belt and retractor assembly could increase the risk of injury in collisions.

WARNING:The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when
handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in
pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.

WARNING:To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.
NOTE:If a seat equipped with a seat-mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the supplemental
restraint system (SRS) must be depowered. See  See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair/Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
Depowering And Repowering.
NOTE:The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal
operation and does not indicate an SRS fault.
NOTE:The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
NOTE:Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and carry out the diagnostic
procedure again.
NOTE:The passenger seat safety belt retractor is shown, the driver-side is similar.

All safety belt retractor pretensioners

1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). See  See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair/Supplemental Restraint System

(SRS) Depowering And Repowering.

NOTE:Inspect the D-ring cover for damage. If the cover is damaged or does not remain closed, install a new D-ring cover and bolt. 

2. Remove the safety belt D-ring bolt cover by squeezing the height adjuster buttons and pulling the cover out at the bottom.

3. Remove the D-ring bolt and D-ring from the safety belt height adjuster, and position aside.

To install, tighten to 48 Nm {4.8 kgf-m, 35 ft-lbf}.

Passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner

1. Disconnect the safety belt tension sensor electrical connector.

All seats

1. Remove the safety belt anchor bolt and position aside the safety belt.

To install, tighten to 48 Nm {4.8 kgf-m, 35 ft-lbf}.
