The telephone antenna (A2/22) transmits and receives telephone signals (data and voice information).

The signals picked up by the telephone antenna (A2/22) are amplified by the integral antenna amplifier whilst the signals transmitted are bunched in a
clubbed formation. These signals are passed on via the antenna cable.

Selecting telephone antenna, function

A GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) antenna is needed for transmitting the TELE AID emergency call telegram (TELE AID emergency
call or telediagnosis), for establishing the voice connection and for conventional phone calls. For normal telephone calls it is the CTEL antenna (A2/22).
This antenna can be damaged in the case of an accident (e.g. rollover). However, the telephone antenna (A2/22) can also have another defect. TELE AID
emergency call or telediagnosis is no longer possible then. To prevent this from happening, the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and
the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) are installed in addition to the telephone antenna (A2/22). This antenna is located at a crash-safe
location and should only be used if required.

For this purpose, the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver (A35/17) is equipped with 2 GSM antenna inputs to which the corresponding
active antenna is switched through to the telephone transmitter/receiver unit. As long as no emergency call is triggered, the CTEL antenna (A2/22) is
always active. In the event of an emergency call the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver, D2B (A35/17) checks the signal level of the CTEL
antenna (A2/22). If this is not sufficient, the level of the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system right backup
antenna (A2/55) is checked. The antenna with the higher signal level is used for radio connection.

The telephone transmitter/receiver unit is integrated in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17).

Normally the telephone connections are handled over the telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 209.4, model 209.3 up to 31.5.06) or over the telephone
antenna (A2/49a1) (model 209.3 as of 1.6.06), which is located on the roof.

In the event that the telephone antenna (A2/22 or A2/49a1) is defective, the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) actuates the emergency call
system left backup antenna (A2/54) and the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) in the rear bumper over the emergency call system
antenna splitter (A2/25).
