Function

The SBC control unit receives the driver's braking wishes from the signals from the SBC pedal value sensors, front axle pre-pressure sensor and the
stop lamp switch. From this the SBC control unit calculates the optimum pressure for each wheel and actuates the corresponding actuators in the
traction system hydraulic unit.

In the event of a failure of the complete system a hydraulic basic brake function without any electronic control continues to be available

The specified pressure requirements calculated by the ESP control unit (N47-5) for carrying out the functions of ESP, ASR and ABS, are conveyed to
the SBC control unit via the CAN SBC (system's own CAN connection). After that the SBC control unit actuates the actuators of the traction system
hydraulic unit which carry out the controls of ESP, ASR and ABS.

Function of individual actuators and sensors

The switching components of the vehicle dynamics control systems SBC, ABS, ASR and ESP are combined in the traction system hydraulic unit.

High-pressure charging pump

The self-priming high-pressure charging pump integrated in the traction system hydraulic unit charges the pressure reservoir (3) with 160 bar.

Pressure reservoir (3)

The pressure reservoir supplies the pressure required for braking and control. The reservoir pressure is regulated between 140 and 160 bar by the SBC
control unit through the actuation of the high-pressure charging pump.

Left and right front dividing pistons (7 and 8)

The dividing pistons separate the closed loop from the hydraulic circuit (emergency mode). Therefore during an SBC brake application the dividing
pistons transmit the pressure in the closed loop into the hydraulic circuit of the front axle. As the closed separation valves of the front left and right
make the hydraulic circuit of the front axle a self-contained unit

The pressure in the front axle brake circuit is built up by the force of the separating pistons.
