Manual emergency call

A manual emergency call can be accomplished by pressing the emergency call system button (S93/3), denoted by the letters "SOS", integrated into the
overhead control panel control unit (N70). The emergency call system button is covered up with a locking flap. Pressing the protective lid unlocks the
lid, and it automatically opens with the aid of a spring mechanism. The actual emergency call system button is designed as a normally closed contact.
When the emergency call system button is pressed for at least t = 0.5 s, the emergency call system is activated. When a manual emergency call is
initiated, the red light emitting diode in the emergency call system button flashes for the time the manual emergency call is effective. This is also
indicated in the instrument cluster (A1) and on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).

automatic alarm call

A vehicle crash is detected by the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives this
crash information (crash event) as a digital crash signal from the supplemental restraint system control unit over a direct line and redundantly over the
following path:

Chassis CAN (CAN E)

Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)

Diagnostic CAN (CAN D)

In the event of a crash signal, an emergency call is automatically sent out immediately. The severity of the crash detected does not play a part. Following
crash deployment, the red light emitting diode in the emergency call system button starts to flash and keeps doing so for as long as the emergency call
lasts. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the Audio/COMAND display.
The crash level is also sent over the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN) to the emergency call system control unit.

Vehicle tracking

After triggering (e.g. due to theft message from customer by telephone), the vehicle position and vehicle condition data is transferred to the Service
Center by mobile telephone. From there, the data is relayed to the police or security services.
The position is transferred cyclically or on the basis of various events:

When a specific distance is exceeded

Recognition of damage or manipulation to vehicle

Status "Circuit 15 ON" or "Circuit 15 OFF" (ignition switched on or off)

Roadside assistance

The breakdown assistance button (S93/6s2) is integrated into the overhead control panel control unit. A breakdown assistance call is triggered by the
breakdown assistance button. For this purpose, it is necessary to press the breakdown assistance button for t > 0.5 s. Activation is indicated by the LED
in the breakdown assistance button flashing. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the Audio/COMAND display.
When the breakdown assistance button is pressed, data (vehicle identification number (VIN), vehicle model, etc.) is automatically sent to the Service
Center.
Detailed circumstances and other service requirements can then be discussed between the driver and the Service Center over the still existing voice
connection. If required, the Service Center informs the Mercedes-Benz field organization, which then takes suitable action.

MB information call

The MB-Info button (S93/6s1) is integrated into the overhead control panel control unit. Pressing the MB-Info button for t > 0.5 s triggers activation of
the MB information service; this is indicated by the LED in the MB Info button flashing on and off. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and
on the Audio/ COMAND display.
When the MB-Info button is pressed, data (vehicle data (VIN, vehicle model, etc.) is automatically sent to the Service Center. The customer request can
then be processed over the still existing voice connection.
