Disconnect wire cable/transmission (80) on transmission (figure D)

Note:  To install and remove, position selector lever or range selector lever in position "P" and leave in position "P" when wire
cable/transmission is removed
Refer to Related Procedures, Removing and Installing Cable/Transmission For Parking Lock

Remove rubber boot on tunnel

Open cable straps behind cover on left of tunnel and remove wire cable/transmission

Installation: Attach wire cable/transmission in the bracket on the jacket tube

Install in reverse order

Adjust wire cables for parking lock interlock

Refer to Adjustments, Adjusting Wire Cables For Parking Lock Interlock  See: Adjustments

Remove/Install Late Type

TRANSMISSION 722.620 # as of 001681
TRANSMISSION 722.621 # as of 001977
TRANSMISSION 722.622 # as of 0016287

CABLE TO STEERING LOCK 

Removal
1. Remove cover below left of instrument panel
2. Unhook wire cable/steering lock (79) by pressing in the locking tongues and at the same time pressing (arrows) against the steering lock

figure)

3. Remove stop lamp switch
4. Unhook wire cable/steering lock (79) at the release lever (77) (arrow) (figure B)
5. Compress locking device (arrows) and at the same time push the wire cable steering lock upwards out of the mount on the pedal bearing

bracket (figure C)

6. Remove wire cable steering lock

Installation

Install in reverse order, noting the following information
-

Position key in steering lock in position "1"

-

Adjust wire cables for parking lock interlock

CABLE TO TRANSMISSION

Removal
1. Remove cover below left of instrument panel
2. Remove A-pillar foot well cover
3. Unscrew accelerator pedal from floor panel
4. Remove driver side floor lining complete
5. Do not fold up floor carpet, foamed insulation material cracks
6. Remove air duct for rear compartment heating
