Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Ensure steering wheel is in straight ahead position.
3.
Remove clamp bolt securing upper universal joint to steering column shaft. The clamp is located above the universal joint nearest the dash panel.
Swing the clamp plate to one side and allow to hang free.
4.
Remove screws retaining upper and lower steering column shrouds, Fig. 73.
5.
To remove upper shroud, lower steering column height adjuster.
6.
Remove lower shroud, then hood release lever from column tube housing, Fig. 74.
7.
Lower steering column.
8.
Remove heater louver panels by carefully prying from each side of lower instrument panel pad.
9.
Remove four instrument cluster trim panel retaining screws, then the panel, Fig. 75.
10.
Remove eight screws securing front and side surfaces of instrument panel pad.
11.
Remove four clips securing instrument panel pad to frame.
12.
Remove left side footwell lamp, and disconnect electrical connector.
