Poor injector operation may cause Long Crank Times and/or an Unacceptable Idle after a Hot Soak. Metal-tometal contact between the Fuel Injector and
Intake Port results in excessive heat exchange at the contact point (See Figure 10) causing the concern. The concern may be corrected by installing
injector spacers using the following procedure. (See Figure 11).

Remove the fuel tank cap, then release pressure from the fuel system by opening the pressure relief valve on the fuel line, using Tool
T80L-9974-A or equivalent. The pressure relief valve is located in the upper RH corner of the engine compartment
(Thunderbird/Cougar/Mustang) or on the fuel supply manifold (Merkur).
