ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Taurus and 2005 Sable vehicles equipped with a 3.0L - 2V Vulcan Gas/FFV engine built from 6/16/2004 through 7/26/2005 (and
2004-2005 vehicles re-calibrated in service prior to this TSB) may exhibit spark knock, hesitation above 3000 RPM, loss of power, misfire, and possible
engine damage due to detonation and pre-ignition. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may also potentially be on with P0301 through P0306 or other
diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B39.6 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at
the website. If symptoms are not resolved, perform normal diagnostics.
