Villager V6-181 3.0L SOHC VIN 1 EFI (1997)
Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair
Drain
NOTE:
- If major service is required, the transmission fluid will have to be drained for service. At this time, the torque converter and cooler lines must be
thoroughly flushed to remove any contaminants.
- When used under continuous or severe conditions, the transaxle and torque converter should be drained and refilled at service intervals.
- In the event of contamination, replace the transmission fluid cooler.
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Clean the transmission fluid pan around the transmission drain plug.
3. Remove the transmission drain plug and drain the transmission fluid into a suitable container. Discard the drain plug gasket.
NOTE: Measure the amount of transmission fluid drained, to aid in refilling.
4. Remove the 21 transmission oil pan bolts, the transmission fluid pan, and the oil pan to case gasket. Discard the transmission oil pan bolts and the
oil pan to case gasket.
NOTE: Examine the transmission fluid and the particles left in the transmission fluid pan. This may help in diagnosing any concerns.
Transmission fluid that is very dark, has a burnt smell, or contains particles indicates the friction surfaces (clutches or band) may need
replacement. A tacky film indicates varnish buildup which can cause sticking valves, servos, and clutches, and may also inhibit oil pump pressure.
5. Remove and clean both oil pan magnets.
CAUTION: Mark the location of the oil pan magnets during removal. The magnetic field created by the oil pan magnets disturbs the operation of
the solenoids. To ensure proper solenoid operation, install the oil pan magnets in the same location they were removed.
6. Clean the transmission fluid pan and remove all of the old oil pan to case gasket material from the transaxle oil pan and transaxle mating surfaces.
