The rack and pinion gear does not have a center position. It is, however, of importance that the steering angles (turning radius left and right are
correct. The steering angles are determined by the stops of the rack in the steering gear. Therefore, by respective adjustment of the tie rods, the
turning angles to left and right can be adjusted.
CAUTION:
To assure that a sufficient number of tie rod threads remain inside the tie rod end ball joint, the length of each tie rod must be within the permissible
length after adjustment. Tie rod length:
Power Steering - 183.5 - 185.5 mm Manual Steering - 183.5 - 185.5 mm
The tie rod length dimension is as shown below and can be measured with a ruler.
NOTE:
The tie rod boot is seated in a recess in the tie rod, therefore the position of the boot must be checked when taking the measurement.
