1996-98 PATHFINDER MIL ON WITH P0500 STORED OR ABNORMAL SPEEDOMETER OPERATION

APPLIED VEHICLE: 
All 1996-98 Pathfinder (R50)

SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 1996-98 Pathfinder exhibits a MIL "ON" with P0500 stored in the ECM or abnormal speedometer operation, the cause may be an
out-of-specification speedometer drive gear. As a result, the speed sensor pinion gear may become stripped.

A new speedometer drive gear is now available to resolve this incident if it should occur.

CLAIMS INFORMATION

For repair of 1996-97 vehicles, submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line using the claims coding.

For repair of 1998-later vehicles, submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line using the claims coding shown.

Service Procedure

1.

If the MIL is ON and P0500 is stored and/or the speedometer is operating abnormally, inspect the speed sensor pinion gear.

A.

If the speed sensor pinion gear is not stripped, this bulletin does not apply. Look for other causes for the incident.
