SERVICE INFORMATION
If the customer of an applied 2000-2002 Pathfinder complains of an impact feeling/noise under these conditions:
^
over bumps or dips in the road and
^
with the vehicle fully loaded (5 occupants and/or heavy load in the cargo area)
The cause may be the rear suspension compressing fully, or "bottoming out."
If this is occurring, replacement bound bumpers and steel bound bumper seats are now available which should reduce the feeling/noise.
The Service Procedure in this bulletin will direct you how to install these replacement bound bumpers, if you find out they are needed.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
It is NOT NECESSARY to remove the coil springs from the rear axle to replace the bound bumpers. See steps 2 and 6 in this procedure for further
detail.
1.
Put the vehicle up on a hoist.
2.
Place a large screwdriver or pry bar between two coils of the right-hand rear coil spring and extend the distance between the coils (see Figure 1).
Remove the original rear suspension bound bumper from the middle of the springs (see Figure 1).
WARNING:
Be careful not to get your fingers caught in the coil springs.
CAUTION:
Place a shop rag between the pry bar and spring coils to protect the anti-corrosion paint coating on the springs (see Figure 1).
