Drive/Propeller Shaft: Description and Operation

The propeller shaft is of one or two piece construction with a single or double U-joint securing the shaft to the companion flange, Fig. 5.
1.
Mark propeller shaft and companion flange so they can be installed in the same position.
2.
Remove strap bolts, Fig. 5. Use a piece of tape or wire to hold universal joint bearing caps in place.
3.
Lower rear of shaft and slide rearward.
4.
Reverse procedure to install. If driveshaft yokes do not have vent holes, lubricate internal splines with engine oil. If driveshaft yokes have vent
holes apply lubricant No. 1050169 or equivalent to internal splines prior to installation. Torque strap bolts to 14---16 ft. lbs.
