SUBJECT:
"A" CLUTCH SHUTTLE VALVE SPRING REPLACEMENT
MODELS:
1989 TO 1991 405 VEHICLES WITH 4HP14 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VIN 500001 TO 520000
COMPLAINT:
Harsh downshift from 4th to 3rd gear, especially during kick-down, or may be perceived as "slipping" in 3rd or 4th gear
CORRECTION:
Installation of "shot-peened" shuttle valve spring for "A" clutch, P/N 0025.79.
PROCEDURE - Disassembly

Hold accelerator in full throttle position with pedal depressor, P/N 9761.05 or equivalent.

Remove transmission drain plug (1).

Unscrew, dipstick tube nut (2).

Remove transmission oil pan.

Unscrew the 10 torx head screws as shown and remove valve body (3).

Position the valve body on a bench with the "A" clutch/D brake housing facing up as shown. It is not necessary to remove this housing from
the valve body for this procedure.
NOTE:
Be sure work area is clean and free of debris throughout this procedure to prevent contamination of the valve body.
