Air Flow Sensor Plate & Metering Piston Operational Check

1.

Disconnect electrical connectors from control pressure regulator and from auxiliary air device.

2.

Remove steering column lower trim panel and lower left dash panel. Connect test harness 8.0141 P to connector of tachymetric relay, Fig. 9.

3.

Pressurize fuel system by pressing switch of test harness for 10 seconds.

4.

Lift sensor plate slowly. Resistance felt should be constant through entire range of travel.

5.

Allow sensor plate to return by its own weight to stop. Piston should follow movement. If abnormal resistance is felt, sensor plate lever may be
seizing on pivot shaft or piston may be seizing in its sleeve.

6.

Lift sensor plate and return to stop quickly. Control piston should drag in its sleeve and lose contact with lever. Piston should then be heard
contacting lever. If so, piston is free to move correctly.

7.

If piston does not move freely, remove fuel metering distributor from air flow sensor (4 screws) and clean piston in gasoline. Do not allow piston
to drop while removing fuel distributor. Test piston for free movement by holding fuel distributor lever while turning piston. If piston still
hangs up in sleeve, replace fuel distributor.

8.

If main lever in air flow sensor does not move freely, loosen all mounting screws to check if housing distortion was causing binding. If necessary,
replace gasket under unit and tighten all screws evenly. If lever still sticks, replace air flow sensor.

9.

If air flow sensor plate sticks, replace sensor plate.

10.

 When reinstalling fuel metering distributor, use new O-ring.
