Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support vehicle. Support lower control arm with a suitable jack.

2.

Remove wheel and tire assembly, then disconnect brake caliper from steering knuckle and suspend from frame with a piece of wire. Do not let
brake lines support weight of caliper. Install a block of wood between brake shoes to hold piston in caliper bore.

3.

Remove hub, disc and splash shield.

4.

Remove both ball joint studs as previously described.

5.

Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.

6.

Press both ball joint studs from steering knuckle using tool No. J-26407 or equivalent.

7.

Remove ball joint stud nuts, then the steering knuckle.

8.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following torques: lower ball joint stud nut, 55 ft. lbs.; upper ball joint stud nut, 35 ft. lbs.; splash shield
bolts, 7 ft. lbs.; tie rod nut, 29 ft. lbs.
