Parking Brake Control: Adjustments

It is necessary that parking brake be adjusted as described below in order for the self adjusting mechanism to work properly. Parking brake
should only be adjusted if brake shoes, parking brake cable or parking brake lever is being replaced. 

1.

Release hand brake.

2.

Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove heat shield covering secondary parking brake cable and shift linkage.

3.

Loosen locknut (C), Fig. 2.

4.

Turn primary rod nut until shoes lightly contact drum.

5.

Slightly loosen nut so wheels turn freely.

6.

Tighten locknut (C).

7.

Operate parking brake to ensure that there is parking brake lever travel of 7 to 8 notches.
