SUBJECT:

CORRECTING COLD WEATHER SHIFT FAULT,                ISSUE: 03/87-947 FLARE AT THE 3rd TO 4th SHIFT

APPLICATION: ALL 1986 9000 TURBOS AND EARLY 1987 9000 TURBOS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
In cold weather (50 degrees F. or lower) a shift fault may occur the first few times from a cold start. The driver may complain of a brief upshift flare
during the shift from 3rd to 4th. This will be noticed when the accelerator pedal is only lightly depressed at 3000 rpm and at about 55 mph. If the
complaint matches the above conditions the valve body may be changed to a later type.

1987 models from VIN Serial No. H1011575 will not be affected.

Valve Body           

75-92-447

Replacing Valve Body:

1.

Replace the valve body in the car with the new valve body (75-92-447) according to the directions in the Service Manual. See Section 4:2, p.
472-4.

When refitting the new valve body the transmission should be in the "1" position. Carefully refit the boost pressure pipe.

When this is concluded please mark the Modification Plate to prevent unnecessary replacement in the future.

If position A-1 is already stamped with a "7", do not change the valve body. This means that the valve body has been changed at the factory.

Stamp the figure "8" into position A-1 of the plate.

Warranty Information:

For warranty claims, use Failure Code 44270-73-0-01-01. Labor allowance is Operation #44271 (R&R Valve Body) for 1.0 hour. (Valve body must be
returned with claim).
