Transmission Cooler: Description and Operation
WATER-COOLED FLUID COOLER
The automatic transmission is equipped with a water-cooled fluid cooler which is integrated in the engine radiator, forming a complete unit.
Fluid is circulated by the transmission fluid pump and is led, via hydraulic hoses, to the engine radiator and back to the transmission.
AIR-COOLED FLUID COOLER
In certain hot markets, the automatic transmission is also equipped with an air-cooled fluid cooler.
The air-cooled fluid cooler is connected in series with the water-cooled fluid cooler and is mounted in the radiator frame under the engine radiator.
THERMOSTAT
Cars with air-cooled fluid cooler have been manufactured both with and without a thermostat. Currently, cars are manufactured without a thermostat.
