Selector Shaft: Service and Repair
Replacement

Removal

1. Engage 4th gear.
2. Remove the plastic plug from the gearbox.
3. Insert locking pin Tool No. 87 92 335, or equivalent, in the gearbox.
4. Remove the linkage locking screw from the gearbox shaft.
5. Undo the clamp on the gear rod.
6. Raise the car. Remove the linkage stay from the gearbox by unlocking the joint.
7. Lift out the linkage and put it down.

Installation

1. Position the linkage, press on the stay and lock the joint.
2. Lower the car to the floor. Connect the linkage first to the gear rod and then to the gearbox shaft.
3. Insert the locking screw through the gearbox shaft and tighten it, using a torque wrench.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

4. Raise the gear lever gaiter, engage 4th gear and install locking pin Tool No. 87 92 335, or equivalent.
5. Tighten the clamp on the gear rod, using a torque wrench.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

6. Remove the locking pin from the gearbox and install the plug.
7. Remove the locking pin from the selector lever. Install the gaiter and change gear a few times to test the mechanism.
