Subject: Coolant Leak/Odor, Loss of Coolant, Poor Heat and Heater Core, Heater Outlet Hose or Surge Tank Replacement (Install New Surge Tank,
Outlet Heater Hose and Rubber Cap Using Required New Service Procedure)

This bulletin is being revised to add part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-06-02-006 (06 - Engine).
Condition
Some customers may comment on a coolant leak. The comments may range from spots on the driveway to having to add more coolant or coolant odor
within the vehicle. Upon inspection, the technician may find that there is coolant leaking from the heater core and/or the heater hose.
Cause
This condition may be caused by pressure cycles generated in the cooling system with normal engine RPM changes.
Correction
To help eliminate the pressure cycling, install a new design surge tank and heater core outlet hose. These parts should be installed whenever a heater
core, heater outlet hose or surge tank replacement is made.
Caution
To avoid BCM damage, it is critical to disconnect the battery prior to removal of the IP assembly from the vehicle. Failure to disconnect the battery prior
to IP removal will result in the BCM being supplied power while losing the ground (provided via the IP), resulting in internal BCM failure.
1. Diagnose and follow the Loss of Coolant procedure in SI. In most cases, the heater core is leaking. Replace the necessary components.
2. Remove and discard the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in SI.
3. Remove and discard the surge tank outlet hose and surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose/Pipe Replacement (LE5) in SI.
4. Install a rubber cap, P/N 15544596, and new clamp, P/N 11516226 to the thermostat housing where the OE surge tank hose connected (1).
5. Remove the heater core outlet hose (upper hose) and discard. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LE5) in SI.
