ATF level, gearbox with filler tube: check > < ATF level, gearbox with filler tube: replace

–  Remove the cap which secures the plug, prising with a screwdriver -arrow-.
  Note
The filling tube is located on the front part of the gearbox underneath the starter motor.
–  Always replace the cap (the insert on this is damaged by removal).
–  Remove the filler cap.

–  Secure the hook of the oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924- in the filler opening.
  Note
The operation of the gearbox will be affected whether there is insufficient or excessive ATF.

–  Add ATF with the oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924- until ATF comes through the overflow tube -arrow 2- by the test opening.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position “P”.
–  Start the engine
–  Continue to add ATF with the oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924- until ATF comes out of the test hole once more.
–  Tighten the ATF level testing bolt.
–  With the brake depressed and the engine idling, move the selector lever consecutively through all the positions “P, R, N, D, S” keeping it in each position for a minimum of 3 seconds.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position “P”.
–  Check and correct the ATF level immediately → Chapter.
