  WARNING
Observe the safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter.
   
–  Place plastic sheeting -1- over the Velcro strips -2- of the lumbar support. Fix the plastic sheeting in position at the lumbar support.
–  Make sure lumbar support is connected to lumbar support frame with locking element -3- or a suitable pin.
–  Place the lumbar support frame behind the backrest frame and engage the lumbar support frame at the top on the left and right in the backrest frame mount.

–  Before setting rivet -4-, fit a plastic washer -1- between lumbar support -2- and backrest frame -3-.
–  Rivet lumbar support frame -2- to backrest frame -3-.
–  Pull out the plastic sheeting between backrest padding and lumbar support.
–  Fasten Velcro strip of lumbar support to backrest padding.
–  Connect electrical connectors to longitudinal and height adjustment lumbar support motors.
Perform remaining installation in reverse order of removal. The following must be taken into account:
  WARNING
Before handling airbag units (for example to attach the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
  Note
Make sure electrical connectors are correctly fitted and engage with a click.
–  switch ignition on.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect battery with ignition switched on. For procedure, refer to → Rep. gr.27.
–  If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, the fault memory must be interrogated, erased and then interrogated again → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
