Front seat, removal
  WARNING
Before working on the electrical system, disconnect the battery earth strap.
Heed safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter.
Before removing (touching) the airbag unit, it is necessary for the mechanic to discharge his body electrostatically. This can be accomplished by touching any earthed metal parts /e.g. water pipe, heating pipe or metal supports).
  Note
t  When removal and installation the seats use gloves to avoid soiling the upholstery.
t  The removal and installation procedures may need to be modified slightly depending on the equipment variants.
t  When the battery is reconnected, check the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, window risers), following the indications in the Workshop Manual and/or the Operating Instructions.
–  Move the seat forward.
–  Switch off the ignition and all the electrical components.
–  Disconnect the vehicle battery → Starter motor, voltage supply; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove the rear bolts -1- located in the inner part of the guide rails.
–  Move seat backwards.
–  Remove the front bolts -2- located in the inner part of the guide rails.
–  Remove the seat upwards.
  Note
t  If a CD changer is installed, disconnect only connector on left seat.
t  If a heating mat is installed, unplug the connector.

   
Vehicles with the plug connection for the side airbag on the seat frame
  Note
The connector -1- for the seat side airbag is located at the bottom of the seat frame.
–  Press the unlocking lever -2- and separate the connector -1- from the seat frame.
  DANGER!
Before separating the plug connector of the airbag, any accumulation of electrostatic charging must be eliminated by touching the door lock safety catch or the bodywork.
–  Pull on the release tab -4- of the plug connector -3- and pull this over to the seat side -1-.
–  Connect the plug connector on the seat side -1- to the plug connector -5- of the Airbag Adapter -VAS 6235-.
–  Remove the seat from the vehicle.
  DANGER!
The adapter for the airbag -VAS 6235- must remain connected to this until the seat is re-fitted.

Vehicles with the plug connection for the side airbag on the vehicle undercarriage
–  Open the inspection cover -1- in the -direction of the arrow-.

–  Remove the retaining clips -2- from the wiring.
–  Using a small screwdriver, release the retaining clips in the -direction of the arrow-.
  DANGER!
Before separating the plug connector of the airbag, any accumulation of electrostatic charging must be eliminated by touching the door lock safety catch or the bodywork.
–  Then disconnect connector -1- on side airbag on body side.

–  Then connect the Airbag Adapter -VAS 6281- to the plug connector of the side airbag on the seat side -1-.
–  Remove the seat from the vehicle.
  DANGER!
The adapter for the airbag -VAS 6281- must remain connected to this until the seat is re-fitted.
  WARNING
When repairing as well as removing or installing the different components of the seat, use the holder for seat repair -T20172/5-.
