Removing and installing selector mechanism t  Gear selection mechanism: Removing → Anchor t  Gear selection mechanism: Fitting → Anchor Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Socket and key -T40031- Removing –  Remove selector mechanism trim → Chapter. –  Remove the air conditioner operating unit → Rep. gr.87. –  Remove the ash tray installed in the centre console → Rep. gr.68. –  Unplug electrical connector at selector lever lock solenoid -N110-. –  Shift the selector lever into position „P“.

–  Lift up the retaining lug -A- and pull off locking cable in direction of -arrow-. –  Shift selector lever to position „D“.

–  Insert socket and key -T40031- through access hole in selector mechanism and loosen clamping bolt at rear of selector lever cable approx. 1 turn.   Note t  Only loosen clamping bolt approx. one turn - do not remove. t  Clamping bolt can only be accessed with selector lever in position „D“. t  With clamping bolt loosened, selector lever must remain in position „D“.

–  Open quick release fasteners -2- and -3- and take off rear noise insulation.   Note

The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) on the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged. –  Remove the exhaust system by the surrounding sleeve -arrows-. –  Remove heat shield below selector mechanism.

–  Remove the four securing screws -arrows- of the bottom cover of the gear selection mechanism -A- and take off the cover to the front.   Note Always renew retaining washers.

–  Pull off retaining clip -1- for selector lever cable from the side. –  Pull selector lever cable -2- out of selector mechanism.   Note Do not bend or twist the selector lever cable.

–  Remove nuts -arrows-.   Note The assistance of a second mechanic is required to detach the selector mechanism from below. –  Press the retaining clips -1- and -2- inwards and push the gear selection mechanism downwards at the same time. Installing Install in reverse order, observing following: –  Mount the selector lever cable → Chapter. –  Install locking cable → Chapter. –  Adjusting the lock cable → Chapter –  Install and adjust the exhaust system free of stress → Rep. gr.26. –  Install the ash tray installed in the centre console → Rep. gr.68. –  Install the shift mechanism trim → Chapter. –  Install the air conditioner operating unit → Rep. gr.87. –  Gear selection mechanism: check → Chapter. Specified torques
