Selector lever cable, vehicles up to 02.2009: Removing and installing Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clip pliers -VAS-, see equivalent → Anchor Removal: –  Put the gear selector lever into position „P“. –  Switch ignition OFF.

Vehicle 2.0l TSI 155 kW: –  Unplug electrical connector -1- from air mass meter - G70-. –  Remove air hose -2-. –  Screw out bolt -4- and detach air cleaner housing.   Note Possible disregarding of -item 3-.

–  Remove plate safety clip -C-. –  Press the safety washer -A- upwards and remove by turning clockwise. –  Press selector lever cable off selector shaft lever in -direction of arrow- and lift clear. –  Do not loosen the bolt -B-. –  Do not bend or twist the selector lever cable. –  Raise the vehicle.

–  Remove centre noise insulation -attachment parts 1 and 2-. –  Dismount primary exhaust pipes with the catalyser and primary silencer → Rep. gr.26. –  Remove the cardan shaft → Rear final drive 0AV and 0BR; Rep. gr.39.

–  Unscrew the left and right nuts -arrows- of the vehicle underbody covers.

–  Take off clips -arrows- and remove heat shield.

–  Unscrew the lower cover of the gear selection mechanism -arrows-. –  Carefully slide the cover and the protective sheath over the selector lever cable forward. The protective sheath must not be damaged in the process.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-.   Caution t  Make sure you never touch the printed circuit -B- of the selector mechanism with your fingers, as the discharge of static electricity could destroy the electronic components on the printed circuit. t  The printed circuit can only be renewed together with the selector mechanism! –  Remove detent plate -A- from selector mechanism.   Note The insertion plate is held in place on the left and right with clips.

–  Pull retaining clip downwards -1- from the selector lever control cable in the gear selection mechanism. –  Pull the plastic safety spring -2- slightly forwards and press the bolt -3- upwards only if necessary -arrow-.   Note t  This operation may only be carried out when the selector lever is in position „S“. t  Make sure the bolt does not come out completely. –  Remove the selector lever cable -4- from the gear selection mechanism.   Note Do not bend or twist the selector lever cable. Installation Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Gear selection mechanism, vehicles up to 02.2009: Assembly overview“   Note t  Check the protective sleeve for damage. The protective sleeve can only be renewed together with the selector lever cable. t  Ensure that the cover is correctly attached and is not twisted.

–  Insert the selector lever cable together with the protective sheath into the cover . Take care not to damage the protective sleeve. –  Insert the end of the selector lever cable -4- into the joint of the selector lever. –  Press the bolt -3- downwards -arrow-. –  Make sure that the securing spring made of plastic -2- has locked onto the bolt. –  Fit a new securing ring -1- for fixing the selector lever control cable to the gear selection mechanism. l  Installation position: The angled end of the retaining clip faces to the inside of the selector mechanism.

–  Fit the insertion plate -A-.   Note The insertion plate is held in place on the left and right with clips. –  Mount bolts-arrows-.   Caution t  Make sure you never touch the printed circuit -B- of the selector mechanism with your fingers, as the discharge of static electricity could destroy the electronic components on the printed circuit. t  The printed circuit can only be renewed together with the selector mechanism!

–  Screw down the cover, with the gasket stuck on, to the support bracket -arrows- by hand. Check that the seal is correctly fitted. –  Fit the protective sheath of the selector lever cable on the cover.

–  Carefully press selector lever cable onto selector shaft lever on gearbox in opposite direction of -arrow-. –  Fit the safety washer -A- and lock downwards. –  Mount the plate safety clip -C-. –  Change the gear selector lever from position „S“ to „P“. l  The gear selection mechanism and the selector lever cable should not be hard when changing gear; if necessary, replace the selector lever cable or repair the gear selector mechanism. –  Put the gear selector lever into position „P“.

–  Bolt the lower cover of the gear selection mechanism -arrows-. –  Install heat shield → Rep. gr.66. –  Fit the cardan shaft → Rear final drive 0AV and 0BR; Rep. gr.39. –  Install exhaust system so it is free of stress → Rep. gr.26. –  Adjust selector lever cable → Chapter. –  Check the gear mechanism → Chapter.
