• ◆ V.A.G 1306 Drip tray
• ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
• ◆ V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)
• ◆ V.A.G 1590 Coolant pump wrench

• ◆ VAS 5024 Assembly tool for spring-type clips
• ◆ VAS 5085 Ladder
• ◆ Hexagon bolts M8x35 Qty. 2

Removing

• ‒ First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
• ‒ Remove ribbed belt .
• ‒ Pull off connecting hose for crankcase breather between cylinder head cover and intake hose at cylinder head cover.

Note:

Press buttons on hose couplings to do this.

• ‒ Remove air cleaner with intake hose:

=> Repair group 24; Servicing injection system; Dismantling and assembling air cleaner.

• ‒ Remove lower rubber boot for securing lower part of air filter.
• ‒ Drain coolant => Page 19-16.
• ‒ Remove battery.
• ‒ Remove both outer bolts of battery tray.

• ‒ → Set up support bracket 10-222 A with adapter 10-222 A/ 16 and legs 10-222 A/14 and 10-222 A/15 as illustrated.

• ‒ → Bolt leg 10-222 A/14 to battery tray with bolts M8x35 -arrows-.
      Tightening torque: 25 Nm
• ‒ Hook adapter 10-222 A/16 of support bracket 10-222 A into right-hand lifting eye of cylinder head and take up weight of engine.
• ‒ Remove pendulum support.

=> Running gear, Axles, Steering; Repair group 40; Servicing front wheel suspension; I - Assembly overview, subframe, anti-roll bar, wishbone

• ‒ → Remove right assembly mounting securing bolts -1-.

• ‒ → Remove bolts and nuts from engine mounting -arrows- and remove mounting complete.

Note:

To remove securing bolts use ladder VAS 5085.

• ‒ Lower engine on support bracket only as far as necessary to remove coolant pump.

• ‒ → Remove pulley, locking pulley with coolant pump wrench V.A.G 1590.

Note:

If engine has been removed, it is not necessary to remove pulley. The coolant pump securing bolts can be removed through the drilling in the pulley.

• ‒ → Unscrew coolant pump securing bolts -1- and remove coolant pump -2-.

Note:

To remove coolant pump, press the engine slightly to one side, if necessary, using assembly lever.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

• ‒ Moisten new O-ring with coolant.
• ‒ Insert coolant pump into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts.
      Tightening torque: 20 Nm
• ‒ Fit pulley and tighten securing bolts.
      Tightening torque: 20 Nm
• ‒ Align assembly mountings stress-free by rocking.

Note:

Assembly mounting tightening torques

• ‒ Install pendulum support:

=> Running gear, Axles, Steering; Repair group 40; Servicing front wheel suspension; I - Assembly overview, subframe, anti-roll bar, wishbone

• ‒ Install battery.
• ‒ Install air cleaner with intake hose:

=> Repair group 24; Servicing injection system; Dismantling and assembling air cleaner.

• ‒ Install ribbed belt => Page 13-17.
• ‒ Install noise insulation tray.

Filling with new coolant => Page 19-16.
