Repairing Climatronic - engine compartment
  Note
Parts marked with * can be repaired only by specially trained mechanics in suitable workshops → Chapter since the refrigerant must be extracted beforehand.
1 - Evaporator*
q   In passenger compartment
2 - Air conditioning system coolant temperature sender -G110-
q   Removing → Fig.
3 - Radiator fan relay -J26-
q   Note part number.
q   Initiates the first and second fan speeds. For the coolant temperature and refrigerant pressure range.
4 - Ambient temperature sensor -G17-
q   Task: ambient temperature sensor -G17- records the information and sends it to the control unit. For controlling the temperature flap and the fresh air blower depending on the ambient temperature.
q   Checking: → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051
5 - Water drain pipe
q   Checking → Fig.
6 - Coolant temperature sender -G62-
q   Sends information to the engine control unit or radiator fan control unit -J293- by means of which the air conditioning system magnetic clutch -N25- switches off if the coolant temperature is too high (off at 119 °C, on at 112 °C).
7 - Condenser*
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
8 - Evacuating and charging valve*
q   High-pressure side
9 - High-pressure safety valve*
  WARNING
Danger of freezing injuries.
When the pressure in the refrigerant circuit is too high (e.g. due to overfilling), refrigerant leaks out of high-pressure safety valve.
Wear protective goggles and suitable clothing.
q   Checking → Fig.
10 - Air conditioner compressor*
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
Running-in procedures → Chapter.
11 - Refrigerant line*
q   Renew O-ring (note part number)
12 - Air conditioning system magnetic clutch -N25-
13 - Receiver with dryer cartridge
q   Removing dryer cartridge → Chapter
  Note
Under certain conditions, it is no longer necessary to renew the dryer cartridge each time the refrigerant circuit is opened; see Workshop Manual Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a → Rep. Gr.00, Technical data; Renewing components.
14 - Air conditioning system pressure switch -F129- or high-pressure sender -G65-
q   Check air conditioning system pressure switch -F129- → Chapter
q   Renew O-ring
q   8 Nm
  Note
In vehicles with engine code ASZ, high-pressure sender -G65- is installed instead of air conditioning system pressure switch -F129-.
q   Checking → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 in the function “guided fault finding”
q   Renew O-ring
q   8 Nm
15 - Connector*
q   Rotating
16 - Evacuating and charging valve*
q   Low-pressure side
17 - Dust and pollen filter
q   Removing → Chapter
18 - Expansion valve*
q   Removing → Chapter

Checking water drain pipe
  Note
Take the vehicle to a suitable workshop → Chapter if water drain pipe -1- has to be replaced; remove heater and air conditioning unit.
1 - The water drain pipe is located approx. 10 cm below the expansion valve and must not be blocked.

Checking high-pressure safety valve on air conditioner compressor
  WARNING
Danger of freezing injuries.
The high-pressure safety valve releases refrigerant when the engine is running and the pressure in the refrigerant circuit is too high.
Switch off engine.
t  Task: protects refrigerant circuit against excessive pressure
t  The high-pressure safety valve indicates whether the valve has been opened. An attached adhesive plate -arrow- is pushed out. In this case, hand over the vehicle to a suitable workshop.

Removing air conditioning system coolant temperature sender -G110-
  Note
t  Cooling system is pressurized when engine is warm. If necessary, release pressure before carrying out repairs.
t  Refill with coolant after installing thermal switch → Rep. Gr.19.
Removing: → Rep. Gr.92
1 - Air conditioning system coolant temperature sender -G110-
2 - O-ring
3 - Clip
4 - Coolant housing
