Test prerequisites
l  Check fuel pump non-return valve for perfect condition → Chapter.
Checking sequence
–  Remove cover from fuse holder.
   
–  Remove the fuse for the fuel pump from the fuse holder. Fuse installation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations

–  Connect the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with adaptor cable -SAT 1348/3 3- to the right hand side contact to fuel pump and battery positive (+).
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin.

–  Remove the supply line -1- from the fuel filter outlet. Push the buttons on the fuel hose coupling for this purpose.
–  Connect the pressure gauge -VAG 1318- to the fuel filter with the help of the adaptor -VAG 1318/23- and the adaptor -VAG 1318/17-.
–  Close pressure gauge cut-off tap (lever at right angle to direction of flow -B-).
–  Press the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- for approx. 10 seconds in order to fill the fuel filter and to build up the operating pressure of 3.0 bar (3 bar pressure regulator) or 4.0 bar (4 bar pressure regulator).
–  Observe pressure drop on tester. After 10 minutes the pressure must not fall below 2.5 bar (3 bar pressure regulator) or 3.5 bar (4 bar pressure regulator).
If the pressure drops again:
–  Check that there are no leaks in the pipe connections.
If no leaks are observed in the pipes:
–  Renew fuel pressure regulator.
