Voltage supply and wiring to control unit: verification
Test condition
l  Battery voltage 11.5 V
Checking sequence
   
–  Pull 6-pin connector off the throttle valve control unit -J338--arrow-.
  E24-0201
–  Connect the manual multimeter -VAG 1526C- or digital multimeter -VAG 1715- to contacts 2 and 6 of the connector to measure voltage, using the auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-.
–  Switch on ignition.
t  Specification: min. 4.5 V
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Connect the multimeter to measure voltage to contact 2 of the connector and earth.
–  Switch on ignition.
t  Specification: min. 4.5 V
–  Switch ignition OFF.
If results do not match specifications:
Engine code letters: BXV - BBM
–  Connect the engine tester -VAG 1598/22- to the control unit cable harness.
  A24-0139
Engine code letters: AZQ - BME
  E01-0168
–  Connect the engine tester -VAG 1598/31- to the control unit cable harness. Without connecting the engine control unit.
  E01-0168
All other vehicles continued
  A24-0139
–  Test cables for open circuit between the engine tester -VAG 1598/31- or engine tester -VAG 1598/22- and the 6-pin connector:

Wire resistance: 1.5 Ω max.

–  Additionally check wires for shorts to one another, to vehicle earth or to battery positive.
t  Specification: ∞ Ω.
If no fault in lines is detected:
–  Check engine control unit voltage supply.
