Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340-
t  Coolant charger -VAS 6096-
t  Adapter for cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274/8-

   
t  Refractometer -T10007 A-
Carry out the following work:
Removal:
Fitting location: → Item
l  Engine cold.
  WARNING
Steam may be released when opening the expansion tank. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.

–  Briefly open filler cap -1- of coolant expansion tank in order to relieve remaining pressure from cooling system.
  N19-10752
–  Unlock and disconnect connector -2- from coolant temperature sender -G62--1-.
–  Place a cloth under connecting piece to absorb escaping coolant.
  Note
Insert new coolant temperature sender -G62- immediately into cylinder head in order to avoid loss of coolant.
–  Remove bolt -arrows-.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse sequence of removal. Note the following:

t  Renew seal.
t  Insert new coolant temperature sender -G62- immediately into cylinder head in order to avoid loss of coolant.
–  Check coolant level → Chapter.
  N19-10749
Tightening torque:
ComponentSpecified torque .
Coolant temperature sender -G62-8 Nm
