Fitting
Prerequisites
l  Prevent dirt and sealant remnants from entering cylinder head.
l  Clean all sealing surfaces so that they are free of oil and grease.
l  When installing the camshaft cover or the camshaft, the cams for cylinder 1 must face upwards.
l  The pistons must not be positioned at TDC.
–  Remove sealant remnants on cylinder head and cylinder head cover, with a universal sealant remover.
–  Lubricate the camshaft contact surfaces.
–  Insert support element in cylinder head and fit roller rocker finger onto respective valve stem end or support elements.

–  Ensure all roller rocker fingers contact the valve ends -1- correctly and they are clipped into their respective support elements -2-.
–  Carefully position the camshaft in the cylinder head bushes.
  N13-0471
–  Apply a thin even coat of sealant onto the clean camshaft cover sealing surface.
  Note
The sealant must not be applied too thick, otherwise excess sealant can enter the oil channels or camshaft bearing and cause damage to the engine.
  N13-0473
–  Carefully house the cylinder head cover vertically from above. The pins must align with the camshaft openings -arrows-.
  Note
t  Positioning and securing the cylinder head cover must be completed without interruption, as the sealing surfaces start to cure as soon as they have contact.
t  The cylinder head cover bolts must be renewed.
  N15-0244
–  Tighten the bolts item -1 and 2- alternating diagonally and tighten to 6 Nm.
–  Next, tighten the rest of the bolts to 6 Nm, in the established order.
–  Finally, retighten all the bolts ¼ turn (90°)
  Note
After installing cylinder head cover, the sealant must be allowed to dry for approx. 30 minutes.
Continue the installation in reverse order but note following:
–  Install new camshaft oil seal → Chapter.
–  Fit the toothed belt → Chapter.
  Note
If the battery is reconnected check the vehicle equipment (radio / radio and navigation system, clock, power windows), following the indications in the Operating Instructions.
–  Perform the work sequence “procedure after voltage supply open circuit” → Chapter.
–  Interrogating and erasing fault memory → Chapter.
