Hydraulic tappets: check
Hydraulic tappets: check
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Gauge
t  Plastic or wooden wedge
  Note!
t  The hydraulic tappets should always be renewed completely (they can not be individually adjusted or repaired).
t  Irregular valve noises during start-up are normal.
Checking process
–  Start engine up and allow to turn over until the radiator fan has come on once.
–  Rev up to approximately 2500 rpm for 2 minutes.
If the hydraulic tappets continue to make noise, locate the faulty tappet/s following this work sequence:
–  Remove the cylinder head cover.
–  Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the tappet cams to be checked are at top.
–  Determine the play between the cams and the tappets.

–  Lightly press the tappet down with a wooden or plastic wedge. If a 0.2 mm thick gauge can not fit between the camshaft and the tappet, this tappet should be renewed.
  Note!
After installing new tappets, the engine should not be started up for approximately 30 minutes. The hydraulic compensation elements should be grinded (the valves could rest on the piston).
