Installing > < Removing and installing fuel tank

Removing
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter.
–  With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
–  Remove fuel filler flap unit.
–  With open fuel filler flap.
   
–  Pull off the return pipe -1- and the connector -2- from the flange.
–  Disconnect the pre-supply pipe -3- and the breather pipe -4-.
  Note!
Press buttons on hose couplings to do this.
  Warning
Fuel supply pipes are under pressure! Before removing from hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  Drain fuel tank.

–  Remove rear connecting support -1-.
–  Remove all rear exhaust system mountings -2- from body and secure the slightly lowered exhaust system with wire to body.
–  Remove rear axle:
–  Remove rear right wheel housing liner → General Body Repairs; Rep. Gr.66.
–  Remove fuel filler flap unit → General Body Repairs; Rep. Gr.55.
–  Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck.
–  Detach filler pipe from body.
–  Remove filler neck.
–  Remove tensioning strap. When doing this support fuel tank with hydraulic lift jack -SAT 1001-.

–  Disconnect sealing boot and fuel hoses and pull filler neck out of fuel tank.
–  Now the fuel tank can be detached from body and removed together with the heat shield.
  Note!
Ensure when removing the fuel filler neck that the inner sealing ring in fuel tank is not damaged.
–  Remove fuel tank with heat shield.
