Installing > < Removing and installing oil pump

Removing
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter, Removing, installing and tensioning toothed belt.
   
–  Secure crankshaft sprocket -1- using a used securing bolt -2-.
–  Position crankshaft at top-dead-centre (TDC) No. 1 cylinder:
   The chamfered tooth on sprocket must align with the mark on the oil pump -arrow-.
  Note!
The oil pump/seal retainer cover has 2 marks for top-dead-centre (TDC), the smaller mark (right) is for 4V engines and the longer mark (left) 2V engines. Never interchange the marks, otherwise serious engine damage may occur as a result.

–  Turn crankshaft/toothed belt sprocket back 3 teeth (anti-clockwise direction) from TDC:
   The third tooth -arrow- next to the chamfered tooth -A- must align with the TDC mark on the oil pump housing.
  Note!
This setting is the correct setting for the installation of the oil pump. One of the four follower polygon cam lobs on the crankshaft faces upwards.
–  Remove the crankshaft toothed belt sprocket and the toothed belt tensioning roller.
–  Remove the oil sump → Chapter.
–  Remove the suction pipe → Item.
–  Remove the oil pump.
  Note!
To remove the oil pump from vehicles with an air conditioning system the vane pump, compressor, alternator bracket must be partially removed.
–  Remove seal.
–  Remove sealant remains from cylinder block with a flat scraper.
–  Clean sealing surface, it must be free of oil and grease.
