Oil sump, oil pump, balance shaft assembly: component overview
1 - Oil sump
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
2 - 10 Nm
3 - Intake connecting pipe
q   Clean strainer if soiled.
4 - 10 Nm
5 - O-ring
q   Renew
6 - Oil pump
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Before installing, check that the two dowel sleeves for centring the oil pump on the balance shaft assembly are at hand
7 - Oil pump drive shaft
8 - Circlip
q   Must lie in base of groove.
q   Renew damaged or over-tensioned circlip.
9 - Cylindrical pinion for a balance shaft
10 - 20 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   Renew
11 - Hub
q   For intermediate gear wheel.
q   Renew
12 - 90 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   Renew
13 - Thrust washer
q   For intermediate gear wheel.
q   Renew
q   Note installation position → Fig..
14 - Intermediate gear wheel
q   Renew
q   To achieve the correct backlash a suitably thick coating is already applied to the new idler drive. The required clearance is achieved when the coating is worn
  Caution
Make sure that the axial support disc is mounted correctly on the idler drive → Fig.
q   Fitting position: You must be able to view the part no.
q   Installing → Chapter.
15 - Thrust washer
q   For intermediate gear wheel.
q   Renew
q   Note installation position → Fig..
q   For installing the idler gear, secure with grease on the housing
16 - Cylindrical pinion for the crankshaft
q   Replace in case of damages → Chapter
17 - Balancer shaft module
q   Removing → Chapter.
q   New balance shaft assembly: Installing → Chapter.
q   Used balance shaft assembly: Installing → Chapter.
q   Before installing, check that the two dowel sleeves for centring balance shaft assembly are fitted on cylinder block
18 - M7 = 13 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn); M8 = 20 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   Renew
q   Follow the correct tightening order: new balance shaft assembly: Fitting → Chapter Used balance shaft assembly: Installing → Chapter.
19 - Oil extraction pipe
20 - 10 Nm
21 - 40 Nm
22 - 45 Nm
23 - 15 Nm
q   Tighten crosswise in several stages
24 - Seal
q   Cannot be lost. Is connected to the drain screw
25 - Oil drain plug - 30 Nm
q   with shaft seal
q   Renew

   
Balance shaft assembly: Successive mounting
–  Tighten the bolts of the balance shaft assembly as follows:
1.  Screw in bolts in the sequence -1 ... 8- hand-tight.
2.  Pretighten bolts to 6 Nm, sequence -1 ... 8-.
3.  Tighten bolts -5 and 7- to 13 Nm.
4.  Turn bolts -5 and 7- 90° further (1/4 turn) using a rigid wrench.
5.  Tighten bolts -1 … 4, 6 and 8- to 20 Nm.
6.  Turn bolts -1 ... 4, 6 and 8- by 90° further (1/4 turn) using a rigid wrench.

Oil spray jet and pressure relief valve
1 - Bolt with pressure relief valve, 27 Nm
2 - Oil spray jet for cooling piston

oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-: Removing and installing.
Depending on version
1 - Bolt, 10 Nm (self-locking); renew
2 - Seal; replacement
3 - Electrical connector
4 - Oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-

Thrust washer installation position
  Caution
Ensure that the thrust washer -A- does not loosen from the gaps in the balance shaft housing when installing the idler gear -arrows- and then clamp them. If required, secure with grease on the balance shaft housing.
