Removing and installing radiator

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -VAG 1782-, see equivalent (only for vehicles with automatic gearbox) → Anchor

t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor
Removing
  Note
Collect drained coolant in a clean container for re-use or disposal.
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open cap on coolant expansion tank.
  W00-10700
–  Release quick-fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation.
–  Remove the front bumper cover → exterior body installation work; Rep. gr.63.

–  Place the drip tray -VAS 6208- under the engine.
–  Unscrew the drain plug -arrow- at coolant hose (bottom left) and drain off coolant.

–  Remove the coolant hose under the radiator -arrow-.

–  Detach coolant hose at top left of radiator -2-.
  Note
Ignore -item 1-.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
  Note
  A19-10108
Observe rules for cleanliness when working on automatic gearbox → Rep. gr.00.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -VAG 1782- underneath.
–  Remove ATF pipes (top -arrow- and bottom) from radiator: → Rep. gr.37.
–  Tie ATF pipes up onto longitudinal member to prevent fluid escaping.
All vehicles (continued):
  A10-0899
–  Unplug electrical connectors (left and right) -1- for horns -2-.
–  Unscrew nuts -3- and remove alarm horns -2-.
–  Unscrew bolts-4- and remove front cross member -5-.

–  Unbolt left and right air guides from radiator -arrows-.

–  Unclip ambient temperature sensor -G17--item 2- from bracket.
–  Remove the screws -3- and -4- of the cooling pipe of the steering auxiliary and press the cooling pipe to the side; the hydraulic tubes remain connected.
–  Detach electrical connector -1- at high-pressure sender -G65-.
  WARNING
The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
–  Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- for condenser.
  Note
To prevent damage to the air conditioning compressor and refrigerant pipes/hoses, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
–  Move the condenser with the connected lines downwards.

–  Release both retaining bolts for the radiator and lift off -arrows-.
–  Swivel radiator forwards and lift off.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Fit the front bumper cover → Exterior body installation work; Rep. gr.63.
–  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
  Note
The coolant in the entire system must be changed if the radiator is renewed
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Secure the ATF pipes → Rep. gr.37.
–  Check ATF level → Rep. gr.37.
All vehicles (continued):
–  Check headlight adjustment → Booklet301.
