Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Extractor -2085-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Adapter -2085/2-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Hose clamp -3036-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Guide sleeve -T10071-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Extractor -T40001-, with claw -T40001/6- and claw -T40001/7-, see Equivalent → Anchor.

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.

Removing

–  Pull off engine cover panel -arrows-.   WARNING Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully. –  Open cap on coolant expansion tank.

–  Release quick-fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation. –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.

–  Loosen the sprocket of the cam shaft with the counter holder -3036-.

–  Remove the camshaft sprocket with the extractor -T40001-, the claw -T40001/6- and the claw -T40001/7-.

–  To guide the seal extractor, screw the adaptor -2085/2- all the way into the camshaft by hand. –  Loosen inner section on sealing ring puller -2085- from outer section by turning two turns (approx. 3 mm) and fasten with knurled-head screw.

–  Lubricate threaded head of extractor -2085-, place it in position and, while exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible. –  Loosen the knurled head screw and turn the inner part against the cam shaft till the sealant ring (gasket) has engaged. –  Clamp flats of oil seal extractor in vice. Extract the seal using pliers. Installing –  Do not oil seal sealing lip.

–  Mount the guide sleeve -T10070/1- on the camshaft pin. –  Push oil seal over guide sleeve on to camshaft journal. –  Detach guide sleeve.

–  Press flush the oil seal with the pulling sleeve -T10071/3- and the screw -T10071/4-. –  Fit the pin on the camshaft.

–  Fit the camshaft sprocket. To tighten the bolt, immobilise the camshaft sprocket with the counterhold -3036-.   Note t  When turning the camshaft, the pistons must not be at TDC. The valves/pistons may be damaged. t  Ensure that the pin is seated correctly. –  Install toothed belt → Chapter. –  Assemble the lock carrier with attachments → Bodywork - Exterior assembly work ; Rep. gr.50.

–  The torque reaction support must set itself on its rubber stop by means of its self weight, then tighten the nuts -arrows-. –  Fit the front bumper cover → Exterior body installation work; Rep. gr.63. –  Check headlight adjustment → Booklet301. Specified torque .
