Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clamp -T10027A-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Silicone sealant → Spare parts catalogue
Removing
–  Remove sump → Chapter.
  WARNING
The engine must only be rotated by turning the crankshaft in the normal rotation direction (clockwise).
  Note
The engine should revolve around the central bolt of the crankshaft.

–  Crankshaft at TDC cyl. 1 TDC.

–  Pull off chain guard. Retaining tabs can be released with a small screwdriver (insert in openings -arrows-).

–  Loosen bolt on oil pump chain sprocket. Counterhold on central bolt of vibration damper.

–  Use screwdriver to slacken chain rail -arrow- and lock it in position using a 3 mm Allen key -1-.

–  Detach oil pump chain sprocket and disengage chain at balance shaft drive.

–  Remove baffle plate by unscrewing bolts -1 and 2-.

–  Loosen bolts -arrows- on balance shaft housing, working from outside inwards, and then remove balance shaft housing.
Fitting and adjusting
l  Pre-tensioned chain tensioner → Chapter
–  Renew all bolts of balance shaft housing.
–  Renew seal on bolt for balance shaft housing → Item.

–  Position the intermediate plate on the adjustments sleeve of the rotational balancing unit, as shown in the figure -arrows-.

–  Install balance shaft assembly with oil pump and spacer plate. Tighten the fastening bolts -arrows- from inside outwards to 15 Nm + 90° (1/4 turns).

Note different bolt lengths. → Fig.

Pay attention to centring sleeves.

Tightening sequence:
1. stage:Hand-tight
2. stage:15 Nm → Remark
3. stage:90° (1/4 turn)

1)  Renew bolts
   
–  Install the baffle plate. For this purpose, insert the dowel into the balancing shaft module -arrow- ad tighten the screw -1- to 21 Nm and the bolt -2- to 9 Nm.
  Note
The engine should revolve around the central bolt of the crankshaft.

–  Crankshaft at TDC cyl. 1 TDC.

–  Marking on chain sprocket of balance shaft -arrow- must be positioned opposite the locating hole. Lock the pinion in this position using the counter hold -T10027A-. Fit the chain to the pinion of the balance shaft..
–  Fit the oil pump sprocket, and tighten the bolt by hand.
  Note
Chain sprocket for oil pump can only be installed correctly in one position. When installing, you may turn ONLY the oil pump.
  N17-10060
–  Remove the holding tool -T10027A- and the internal hex socket wrench -1-. Secure oil pump chain sprocket. Tightening torque: 25 Nm. Counterhold on central bolt of vibration damper.
Installation is done in the reverse order.
–  Fit the oil sump → Chapter.
