Exhaust system: install without stress l  The exhaust system must be aligned when it is cool. Vehicles without clamps between centre silencer and rear silencer l  The exhaust system must be aligned when it is cool. –  Loosen the bolts of the front clamp → Item.

–  Push exhaust system towards front of vehicle -arrow-, so that rubber mounting (right-side) for centre silencer is preloaded by -a- = 5 ... 9 mm. –  Tighten bolts on front clamp → Item evenly to 23 Nm. –  Align the tailpipes → Anchor. Vehicles with clamps between centre silencer and rear silencer l  On vehicles with clamps fitted between centre silencer and rear silencers, it is also necessary to align the rear silencer. –  Loosen bolts for front clamp → Item and rear clamps → Item.

–  Push front section of exhaust system towards front of vehicle -arrow-, so that rubber mounting (right-side) for centre silencer is preloaded by -a- = 5 ... 9 mm. –  Tighten bolts on front clamp → Item evenly to 23 Nm.

–  Push rear section of exhaust system towards front of vehicle -arrow- until rear mountings for rear silencer are preloaded by -a- = 7 ... 11 mm. –  Horizontally align rear silencer. –  Tighten bolts on rear clamps → Item evenly to 23 Nm. –  Align the tailpipes → Anchor. Aligning tailpipes

–  Check the distance from the left and right tailpipe to the bumper: l  Dimension -x- (left-side) = dimension -x- (right-side) If necessary, correct dimension x as follows:

–  Slacken nut -arrow- on brace between exhaust pipes. –  Adjust the distance between the rear silencers. –  Tighten nut to 23 Nm.

–  Check distances -y- and -z- between tailpipes and bumper. l  Dimension -y- = more than 20 mm. l  Dimension -z- = 10 ... 16 mm. –  If necessary, check whether the exhaust system is aligned free of stress → Chapter.
