Removing and installing turbocharger
Removing and installing turbocharger
t  Removing → Anchor.
t  Installing → Anchor.
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor
Removing
  W00-10700
–  Pull off engine cover panel -arrows-.
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open cap on coolant expansion tank.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove the air filter housing → Chapter.

–  Remove front heat shield -arrows-.

–  Unscrew the line of the crankcase vent from the exhaust turbocharger-1-.
–  Release and remove the lines of the crankcase vent from the cylinder head cover -2-.
–  Release the activated carbon filter hose which leads to the active charcoal tank from the cylinder head cover -3-.
–  Unscrew the oil flow line -4- from the turbocharger.
–  Remove catalytic converter → Chapter.

–  Unscrew the oil flow line -arrow- from the turbocharger.

–  Release quick-fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation.
–  If fitted, release quick fasteners -3- and remove rear noise insulation.

–  Detach air intake hose -1- going to turbocharger (bottom right).
–  Separate the air hose -2- to the charged air cooler at the lock carrier.

–  Detach electrical connectors -1 and 2- and move wire clear.

–  Unscrew oil supply pipe for turbocharger at cylinder block -1-
–  Unscrew the screen -2- of the socket of the turbocharger.

–  Remove oil supply pipe for turbocharger -arrows-.

–  Remove the oil return line -arrows- from the exhaust turbocharger.

–  Loosen the screw -arrow - of the turbo charger support 2 turns.

–  Disconnect the coolant tube-arrow-.

–  Unbolt coolant pipe -1- from cylinder head.
  Note
The nuts of the fastening strip must not be threaded off.
–  Unscrew upper nuts -arrows-.
–  Lift out turbocharger/exhaust manifold.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Renew seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
t  Fill turbocharger with engine oil at oil supply line connection.
t  Hose connections and hoses for charge air system must be free from oil and grease before fitting.
t  Secure all screw joints with serial hose clips → Spare parts catalogue.
–  Install the exhaust system and align free of stress → Chapter.
–  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
–  Check oil level . → Booklet301.
  Note
After fitting the turbocharger, allow the engine to run at idle for about 1 minute, without accelerating; this will lubricate the turbocharger.

1)  Renew nuts.
