Buzzer function warning low oil pressure
When not under pressure, the oil pressure switch is open and will close when the operating pressure is attained.
The lack of oil pressure warning switches on approx. 10 seconds after switching on ignition.
Switch-in delay of oil pressure warning approx. 3 seconds.
Switch-off delay of oil pressure warning approx. 5 seconds.

Checking operation of and servicing visual and acoustic oil pressure gauge → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Oil pressure warning lamp: checking
After switching on the ignition and with the engine off, the oil pressure warning should light up for approx. 3 seconds and then go out. The check is interrupted if the engine is running.
The optical oil pressure warning (flashing oil pressure warning light) and the three buzzer warnings are triggered in the following cases:
l  Ignition on, engine off, oil pressure switch closed
l  Engine speed greater than 1,500 R.P.M., oil pressure switch open
  Note
t  Engine speed greater than 5,000 R.P.M., warning lamp stays on even when oil pressure switch is closed. At less than 5,000 rpm warning lamp goes out again.
t  If the oil pressure switch is open for only 0.3 … 3.0 seconds at more than 1,500 rpm, the combined instrument panel processor will memorise it. If this happens three times while engine is in operation, the oil pressure warning will be immediately triggered and will not turn off even at less than 1,500 rpm.
t  Elimination of the oil pressure warning will occur when the oil pressure switch has been closed for more than 5 seconds above 1,500 rpm or ignition is turned off.
Test requirements
l  Engine oil level: checking → Chapter
l  The oil pressure warning lamp -K3- should light up for approx. 3 seconds with the ignition switched on.
l  Minimum temperature of engine oil 80 ºC (the radiator fan must have started once).
Test sequence
–  Remove the engine cover -arrows-.

–  Remove the oil pressure switch -F1- → Item and screw it into the tester.
–  Screw tester into oil filter mounting instead of the oil pressure switch.
–  Connect the brown wire 1 of the tester to earth (-).
–  Connect voltage tester -VAG 1527B- with the auxiliary cables of the auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C- to the positive of the battery (+) and to the oil pressure switch.
The LED must not light up.
–  If the LED lights up, replace oil pressure switch -F1-.
If the LED does not light up:
–  Start the engine and leave running idle. At 1.2 … 1.6 the LED should light up. If not, replace the oil pressure switch.
  Note
Observe the tester and the LED during the starting cycle, because the response point of the oil pressure switch can now be exceeded on starting.
–  Continue to increase engine speed:
At 2000 rpm and with the oil at a temperature of 80 °C, the oil pressure should be 3.0 … 4.5 bar.
At higher engine speeds, the oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar. Where necessary, replace the oil filter mount with the pressure release valve.
