Checking the exhaust gas recirculation valve N18 > < Check conditions

Checking process
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-). Start engine and select “Address code” 01 to select engine control unit.
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0 and 4 for the function “Begin basic setting” and confirm entry with the Q key.

Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0, 0 and 3 for “Display group number 3” and confirm entry with Q key.
 
Start basic adjustment                  
Input display group number XXX          
Indicated on display:
The message in display field 2 must oscillate every 10 seconds between “EGR activ” and “EGR inact”.
The values in field 4 should oscillate in the following way:
Display field 2: EGR inactiv.
Specification in display zone 4: 0...5 %
Display field 2: EGR activ.
Specification in display zone 4: 95...100 %
If the specifications are not attained:
–  Initiate final control diagnosis and activate the EGR valve -N18-: -VAS 5051-; Vehicle self-diagnosis, → Chapter
 
System in basic setting           3    →
900/min    EGR inact    XXX mg/H    XX %
Indicated on display:
The valve should activate.
If the valve does not activate:
–  Test exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- → Chapter
If the valve activates:
–  Check vacuum hoses → Chapter.
If the vacuum hose is correct:
–  Test mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve → Chapter.
